Since its inception in 1998, Linar Audio is dedicated to the design and assembly of high performance audiophile amplifiers and pre-amplifiers. Our products are the fruit of extensive Research and Development efforts in the audio field.
In the early 80's an amplifier was considered good only if it had very low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) figures. In order to obtain low THD, designers used massive overall negative feedback techniques. However feedback makes the amplifier slow. Since the signal takes a small but measurable time to carry out its work, the amplifier cannot react quickly to fast transient signals. The result is a peculiar, and audible, distortion called T.I.M., transient intermodulation. And that’s not all. A loudspeaker doesn’t just absorb energy, it produces it. As its cone moves, it actually acts like a microphone and tries to push its signal back into the amplifier. The feedback carries that unwanted signal right back to the input where it is amplified and added to the real input signal.
To eliminate the feedback, Linar’s approach was to look at each stage of the amplifier as an individual amplifier, then reduce local feedback and extend the frequency response as much as possible. Listening test were used to optimize the local feedback of each stage. After optimization, the individual stages were connected together to form the whole amplifier without feedback from the output to the input. This means there is no path from the speaker to the input. The amplifier drives the loudspeaker, the loudspeaker does not drive the amplifier.
The amplifier then passed a series of bench tests with resistive and complex loads to ensure stability. This design approach didn't have the impressive distortion figures of amplifiers using overall feedback, but had more impressive sound quality, and for most audiophiles that is what matters most.
New technologies, including advancements in loudspeaker design and high-resolution audio recording have increased the demands placed on amplifiers. Today’s amplifiers need to be much more dynamic, yet increasingly able to reproduce all of the subtleties and nuances of music. The new line of Linar Audio products are maintaining the design philosophy with no overall feedback for stability and no capacitors in the signal path, but takes advantage of the evolution of components in the last decade. Passive components such as resistors, capacitors and wire may have a drastic impact on the sound. By proper selection of newly introduced hi-end components, our products have reached an unprecedented level of details and stereo image.
At Linar Audio we continue our research to achieve the highest possible quality audio components for your enjoyment.
